Membership Benefits ( cont'd.)

The REAL $$ Value that comes from being a CMA member is the ability to use our private forum and communicate with hundreds of members. On average, a question posted here is answered within 24 hours. And, you know that the people replying are professionals and not hobbyists!! Here are a few examples of what you will find:

  • Major Machinery Purchases – Before buying a multi-thousand dollar machine, why not check first and see who has one and what they think about it?
  • Looking for a Used Machine – There is a good chance that a member might know the location of just what you are looking for.
  • Shop Layout – We have members who have posted their shop layouts for all to see.
  • Going Lean – Learn from the experiences of our members!
  • Thinking of Outsourcing – You might find a member in your area than can do such things as CNC work, material breakup, edge banding and many other services. You would outsourcing to a fellow member and not a stranger. You may also find that you have services to provide others in your area!
  • Pricing and Contracts – There are several examples of contracts and pricing scenarios that fellow members use. Members are always willing to share examples of other documents they use in their business.
  • How do I ???? – Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t post this type of question on the forum and receives lots of valuable answers. The topics range from installing hardware, handling difficult clients, finishing techniques, design questions and much, much more. This is probably the MOST valuable part of being a member. Why re-invent the wheel when you can ask a question and find others who have already done the “trial and error” process for you?
  • Have Fun !!!!!!! – You can relax here amongst others in the same trade and, with our “always online chat room,” you can really develop friendships around the country!

Quotes from some of our members about CMA benefits

“Like other members have said, I only wish I had joined sooner. Networking with the other woodworking professionals in CMA has helped me focus better on my business, as well as brought innumerable instances of specific helpful advice from other cabinetmakers, both in terms of the "craft" side and the "business" side. ~ Darrel M. Wood - Douglas & Wood, Inc.- Chicago, IL

“You realize that you are not alone in this endeavor….cabinetmaking. You have colleagues (and friends) in most every state. You know that you can call at any time, if need be.” ~ Doug Smith – Certified Woodworking Co. – Raleigh, NC

“Having the opportunity to share what I have learned the hard way through seminars, roundtables, and writing has made me a better person – both professionally and personally.” ~ Jim McDermott – Avvento, Inc. – Deer Park, NY

“The collective technical knowledge and business knowledge of the CMA members is extremely impressive.” ~ Charles Kurak – C. Kurak Custom Woodworking, Inc. – Amelia Island, FL

“I kick myself for not joining years ago.” ~ Sean Benetin – Millwork & More LLC – Columbia, NJ

"The ability to learn from the mistakes of others not only shows the willingness to improve ones business, but the eagerness to learn, as well. What took many others 15-20 years to learn on their own - through CMA I learned in 2. I only wish I had joined CMA earlier." ~ Greg Chezem – Cedar Forest Cabinetry & Millwork – Nokesville, VA
